What makes KidsPoint on Point for Top Quality Child Care

452370517_1038834711230489_4238252641853478467_n.jpgChildhood is a truly special part of everyone’s journey. There’s so much learning, and the start of becoming who we are that takes place in our first few years. That’s something that’s been at the forefront as I’ve gotten to know KidsPoint better since joining Waypoint.  KidsPoint is our child care division, and it's a key element of what sets our agency apart. It serves all families in our community, regardless of income, and helps ensure that early education is accessible to everyone. Serving children six weeks to 12 years of age through two locations, KidsPoint Downtown and KidsPoint C Street in the Southwest part of Cedar Rapids. I thought it best to invite our Managing Director of Child Care, Ashley Meyer, to share a bit about why KidsPoint is a top-quality child care program:

“KidsPoint’s programs provide a high quality, nurturing environment where children are encouraged to reach their full potential in all areas of development.  We carry out our philosophy by providing….

  • Partnership that values the family as each child’s first teacher,
  • Curricula (Creative Curriculum ©, Jolly Phonics, Second Step, and the 40 Developmental Assets) that encourage physical growth, foster cognitive learning, and enhance social-emotional development,
  • Environments where each child’s health and safety are of utmost importance, our two Learning Centers & Preschools both have:
    • Secured entrances for safety
    • Indoor and outdoor space for large motor play
    • Nutritionally balanced meals and snacks
  • And inclusivity that embraces children and families of all ethnicities, cultures, religions, abilities, and socio-economic statuses or family structures. This includes offering a sliding scale-fee program/scholarship for families that do not qualify for state funding and are income-eligible.

Early childhood education provides a strong foundation for later academic, social, and emotional growth. The first five years of a child’s life are some of the most important years of development, which is why we empower our staff to grow as teachers who bring the latest knowledge in child care and development to the classroom. Our success is spoken to by how over 93% of our kids who graduate from our Preschool Program are kindergarten ready.

This impact is illustrated by the following testimonial from one of our KidsPoint families:

“Both our girls have both been enrolled at KidsPoint since they were three months old. One has since graduated from their Preschool and moved on to elementary school and is thriving. The other is now in the Preschool Program. KidsPoint is not just a child care, it is a learning center helping kids develop their social and emotional skills and gross and fine motor abilities. Teachers have daily curriculum and there is a built-in preschool program that sets the kids up for success by the time they reach school age. The teachers are professionals who put in the work to help the kids learn and grow while also caring for the children on personal levels. KidsPoint has been welcoming since day one and we have developed a strong bond with the teachers and administrators. We love that KidsPoint has become a home away from home for our girls.” -Joe and Katie Jensen

Early childhood is a critical part of everyone’s journey, and KidsPoint is here to make sure that journey starts with a good foundation for success! I invite our supporters to help raise awareness by sharing this post about the valuable services KidsPoint offers to families in our community. Flowing from FY24 into FY25, Impacts and Changes with Waypoint

July marks the halfway point of the calendar year, but for Waypoint, it marks the beginning of fiscal year 2025 (FY25). For a lot of our staff, this beginning point is a mix of reflecting on our achievements from last fiscal year, while also planning for the new year. In this time of excitement and planning, I thought it would best to share some updates and quotes from our staff.
