What is Sexual Assault?
Sexual assault and abuse is any type of sexual activity that you do not agree to. Sexual assault can be verbal, visual, or anything that forces a person to join in unwanted sexual contact or attention. Examples of sexual abuse include:
- Touching any parts of the body
- Verbal comments about one’s body, including what type of clothing one wears
- Name-calling (whore, slut, bitch, queer, fag etc.)
- Wolf whistles and cat calls
- Sexual innuendo
- Sexual or dirty jokes
- Leering or staring at another’s body
- Obscene t-shirts, hats, pins, etc.
- Pressure for sexual activity
- Spreading sexual rumors
- Hand and mouth gestures
- Bra snapping
- Facial expressions (winking, kissing, etc.)
- “Rating” someone from 1 – 10
- Put downs of females and males
- Unwanted touching
- Discussion of partner’s sexual performance, history etc.
- Pinching, grabbing, holding on to someone
- Display of pornography
- Lewd or threatening letters
- Continuous pressure for a date
- Demanding “Hey baby give me a smile.”
- Sabotaging someone’s work
- Quid pro quo behavior/suggestions
- Obscene or hang up phone calls
- Inappropriate invitations or gifts
- Sexist or sexual graffiti
- Rubbing and brushing up against someone
- Attempted sexual assault
- Stalking
- Rape
